How to Guide for Parents
FAQs
Q. When does practice start?
A. Thursday, April 30th
Q. How many days per week does my child swim?
A. Your child swims five days per week, Monday-Friday. We cancel practice the day after swim meets that are held during the week.
Q. How long are practices?
A. Practice times range from 30-60 minutes, depending on the age group.
Q. Am I required to volunteer?
A. Yes. Each family will be required to sign up for 2 volunteer shifts per child, with a maximum of 5 total shifts per family. Please remember, volunteers are the foundation of a successful swim team! Volunteer shifts will be made available when we open swimmer declaration if not before then.
Q. What do swimmers need to wear for practice?
A. We recommend that for all practices the kids wear a jammer (male) or a one piece suit (female). Wearing baggy shorts or t-shirts will interfere with proper swimming techniques.
Q. My swimmer has to miss a practice due to a prior engagement. Will that be a problem?
A. No. Missing a practice here and there will not be cause for concern. The more practice a swimmer gets the better they improve their own swim skills. If you can, however, please notify the coaches in advance when possible. You can message Coach Katie through the Remind app.
Q. My swimmer was not able to past the test to swim across the lane unassisted. Can they still come to practices even though they won't be able to be a part of the team?
A. No. Eligibility requirements are outlined in our Parent Handbook. This is primarily a safety issue. We are not staffed to provide one-on-one attention to those that are unable to swim safely unassisted. We'd love to have your swimmer come back next season to try again! We strongly encourage them to take private lessons with our coaches or even sign up with one of our area swim school sponsors such as Pengu.
Q. In the event that my child does not qualify for the swim team, will I be able to get a refund?
A. This is the only situation in which refunds will be issued. These refunds will be issued in the form of a check minus any fees incurred by the swim team.
Q. Does my swimmer have to get the new season swimsuit design or can they just wear last season's design?
A. Yes. This is how we will distinguish them at dual team meets and also it gives our team a unified appearance. They are welcomed to wear their previous season swimsuit(s) to practices. Starting this year we will try to keep the same swimming suit style year after year so they can reuse in future years or hand me down to younger kids.
